The 2022 award winner, Aleksandra, is the single mom of an 11-year-old daughter. She is enrolled at North Seattle College/UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business, maintains a 3.96 GPA, and is a first-generation college student. She is dedicated to obtaining her undergraduate degree in Business Administration in 2024. The LYD Award is a significant help in achieving her goal, as poverty has been a consistent barrier to her achieving success. One of Aleksandra’s references and her writing tutor, described Alexandra as “determined, resilient, disciplined, with a strong and unwavering work ethic and a huge amount of personal drive.” Aleksandra’s career goal is to teach financial literacy to people who may not have access to this education, such as BIPOC communities, single mothers, and young people in the foster care system.
